No man is black or white. We all vacillate between the two in that wide range of grey. This story explores that grey, our two main characters, Tae‑in ( Yoo Ah-in ) and Chang‑bok ( Yoo Jae‑myung ), work as “cleaners”.
Their job can neither be described as “socially acceptable” nor “ethically correct”, albeit their personalities is a different matter altogether.

When Cho‑hee (Moon Seung‑ah) enters their life, we see reflections of the good in them. Their life changes with this new addition in their lives.
They end up becoming kidnappers irrespective of their will. But can that fact be mitigated because they are essentially “good” people or because they treated their abductee with care and respect?

I called Voice of Silence an emotional journey; the biggest applause for that goes to the actors. The emotions were well communicated. In the part where she claps for him or when Tae-in finds her, these scenes get their value from acting and direction. But as heartwarming as the middle of the movie might be, the end drags you back to reality. As the questions between good and evil, right and wrong arise again.

Is our indirect involvement in something wrong justified as long as we do not directly cause any harm? Do our good deeds compensate for that indirect involvement? These were the kind of questions that popped into my head while watching Voice of Silence.

Voice of Silence is an incredible experience with solid acting and direction. It was an awe-inspiring journey that left me with a lot of food for thought.
